Cherkassy
is a typical green and calm town of "farmer region" of Ukraine
that makes it a good city to live and grow children. Once founded as a
fortress during the last 700 years Cherkassy became a very peaceful
"town of brides" - statistically there are 6 girls for every
young man living in Cherkassy.

you drive 180 km to the South from the capital of Ukraine Kiev you arrive
to a magic green town Cherkassy located right on the bank of the huge
reservoir. Life is different here. People are very friendly and have time

Now
Cherkassy is a peaceful town of farmers and small factories, but during
the first 400 years after its "birth" as a fortress Cherkassy
was a frontier town of the fight against Poland influence. Also
this town known as a place where in 1648 the legendary commander Bohdan
Hmelnitsky wrote his letter to the Russian tsar of making a union with
Russia.
Dnieper
river reservoir, remarkable embankments, spacious parks and
green streets make this town very nice to all visitors. There are several
Universities and many colleges for tens of thousands young citizens of
this 360.000 people town. Local theatres, museums and art galleries
fulfill the cultural life of town that once was a good host for famous
poets Taras Shevchenko and Alexander Pushkin and the world
known composer Petr Chaykovsky.
Several
very special park-museums are located in Cherkassy area. One of them - Dendro-park
"Sophievka" is even mentioned at the UNESCO catalogue. A
large
museum and many sites are devoted to a memory of Taras Shevchenko whose
tomb in Kanev is a place where every Ukrainian has to visit at least once
in a lifetime.
Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy is one of a unique historical-architectural
open-air museum that exposes samples of the Ukrainian XV-XIX centuries architecture
- 10 museums and 200 buildings are open for tourists who are interested in
Ukrainian roots and culture.
And
if you've heard a lot about Kozaks - legendary defenders of Ukrainian land
in XV-XIII centuries then you have to visit a large museum devoted to a history
of Ukrainian Kozaks in Chigirin city - old capital of Kozaks
"empire".
And
from heroes of ancient times to XX century brave man and women - visit Korsun
open-air museum devoted to thousand of civilians and soldiers who gave
their lives in a fight for freedom of their land during bloody Word War II
1941-1943 years. As Ukrainians say - "The glory to Heroes!" -
you'll be deeply impressed by a silent monument of Korsun hill of glory.
