However, Arbat means a lot for a Muscovite not as a shopping area. First mentioned in chronicles of 1493, the street is over five centuries old. From late XVIII century, Arbat becomes the most aristocratic area of Moscow. Moscow intelligentsia has been adoring the place (and still is). No factories, cheap markets or taverns have ever been built here.

Small quiet lanes around Arbat still keep the charming secrets of old Moscow style. When visiting Arbat, find a few minutes to walk couple of blocks away from the street itself and stroll through the shades of Moscow history. And of course, Arbat is one of the worthy city attractions. It features lots of small souvenir shops and stands, nice cafes and pubs, and a very spectacular crowd.
